GFCI Outlets: These are the “button” outlets in bathrooms, kitchens, garages, and at the exterior that shut off power to the outlet when there is a potential for water. Fully named: Ground Fault Circuit Interruptor.

AFCI’s: Fully named Arc-Fault Circuit Interruptors, are located in the electrical panels and automatically turn off power to bedrooms when a “arc” is detected. For instance, if a child was to stick a metal object in an outlet, the AFCI would shut off power to the bedroom.
